A burst pipe over Christmas while the bungalow was unoccupied resulted in every room and every wall as well as most of the ceilings needing to be replaced. The insurance company recommended hot air blowers for 3 months! Luckily a local contact recommended Del and common-sense prevailed, simply a few ventilation holes in strategic places and the 'free' wind did the rest, the interior dried out as Del and his team gutted the bungalow, all the ceilings, all the floors, all the interior walls, straightforward and next to no mess. Rebuilding commenced once everything was totally dry, again straightforward, no days missed, always cheerful and a little 'dry' humour.
As the building progressed it was very helpful to have Del and Janey challenge some of my thinking on the internal layout. Doing away with one wall in the kitchen opened up the vista across the valley, to the extent, everyone who enters through the front hallway remarks of the superb panorama that greets them.
Del's attention to detail encouraged me to ask him to carry out a number of extra jobs such as the patio and the sun-lounge making the bungalow so much more attractive.
I have no hesitation in recommending Del, 100% satisfaction guaranteed.

I had some excellent work done by Del Stevens who totally renovated a
dilapidated barn for me.
The barn was a mixture of stone and clom and covered in rat holes with a slate roof that looked ready to collapse. Del has a range of expertise that enabled him to repair the clom and the stonework. He also replaced damaged beams and reslated the roof with the original slates that he had carefully removed and replaced and by sourcing second-hand slates that fitted in well. He also put in two Velux windows that let some light into the barn but did not look out of place. He made some new wooden
windows that perfectly matched the original.
The work was all completed without any fuss or hassle to me. Del was a
reliable and dedicated craftsman and I felt confident that I could rely on him to complete the work to a high standard with great sensitivity for the original character of the building.. The barn which had looked a sad and neglected ruin now looks wonderful and is admired by all who visit.
The work was completed some years ago and has withstood gales and torrential rain with no problem. I would highly recommend Del Stevens and would employ him if I needed more work done.

When we purchased our new home in West Wales we were aware of a
a number of issues to resolve before the coming winter. These included but
were not limited to, new windows and doors, roofing, guttering and help
in deciding what could be done with the lean-to “conservatory” through
which the rain poured every time it rained.
To make sure our new home was wind and watertight and comfortable we knew we needed to find a builder and carpenter who would do both excellent work and be reliable. We asked around the local area did searches of the web and asked several people for quotations.
We initially chose Del to make our bespoke windows and doors because he was prompt, reliable and had an excellent catalogue of previous work.
We were told by our surveyor that we should opt for single glazed windows however Del assured us that the wooden windows that he would make could be double glazed and he helped guide us in both the style and colour and we have benefitted from this in the winters that followed. The style and colour of the windows mean the house
looks more appealing and the difference in light is phenomenal.
Following the work and discussion surrounding the replacement
windows we decided that Del was the man to complete all the work
we needed doing and he proceeded to replace two roofs, guttering on
both the house and barn and helped us demolish the “conservatory” and
in its place built a fully insulated timber framed extension, split into a
boot room, office/gym and downstairs shower room and WC.
Given the weather and the land we have these have been a fantastic
addition to our home.
Del is polite, cheerful and always helpful to both his clients and his fellow
tradesmen, when he was replacing our main roof he added the metal
brackets needed for the solar energy we were having installed which
meant that the work was completed much more quickly and neatly.
In addition, he helped the plumber put the solar thermal panels on the
roof.
Having helped us completely transform the outside of our home, we had
no hesitation in asking Del to fit a solid oak ceiling beam (over 6 metres)
in our kitchen to support the floor above, which he completed within one
day; and finally, we asked Del to fit our new Kitchen. The beam and
Kitchen have completed our home and everyone who comes here
comments on how great it looks and what a difference it has made
to our home.
Del has both before and after pictures of our home and if you look at
these anyone would agree that the difference in then and now is
astonishing and we are extremely happy with the quality of the work
completed, the way
in which Del handled himself and his enthusiastic and genuine desire
to help us get the best out of our home.
Del is a very genuine and honest person and this has been apparent
since he began work on our home in 2013. Recently (April 2016)
we asked Del to provide a quote to replace the three internal oak
lintels in our Kitchen as we believed they had decayed to the extent
that they may not provide sufficient support. Del confirmed that
only one lintel needed replacing and that he could remove the
decayed wood from the other two as these lintels were in fact solid.
This is typical of Del’s honesty and integrity, he could quite easily
have agreed to change and charge for three new lintels, we had
asked for that and would have had no way of knowing that we
did not need to replace all three, but to put it simply that would
just not be Del.
My Partner and I would have no hesitation in recommending Del
to any potential customer and would be happy to talk to anyone
who is thinking of employing Stevens Building & DJS Joinery to do work on their behalf.

Very, very pleased with the conservatory door you made and fitted for us. It's lovely and matches the rest of the conservatory. Very professional and tidy, highly recommend your work.

Ten years ago we were looking for a carpenter to replace the sash windows on our grade II listed cottage. We were very pleased when
we came across Derek Stevens. He did a fantastic job. He has since transformed our cottage into a cozy place to live in, with new doors, ceilings and floors. Recently, he made part of an old barn into a lovely little library.
All this and he still managed to maintain the character of the cottage. Apart from being a master craftsman, Derek has an eye for the big picture and a sense of history. To him, even a small job is not an isolated affair; he always keeps the whole building in mind. What is best, what is practical - not only for now but also in the long run? Because of this considerate approach, honed by long experience, Derek avoids mistakes other builders might make.
We would never consider using anybody else.
